His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, has praised Sector 2 Operation Delta Safe and 16 Brigade Nigerian Army for their great civil-military cooperation and improvements to the state’s security infrastructure.
The Governor of Bayelsa announced this at the Brigade’s 2022 West African Social Activities (WASA), which took place on January 28, 2023, at Camp Tukur Buratai Barracks in Yenagoa.
Senator Douye Diri said that the Bde/ Sect 2 OPDS has every right to enjoy the year 2022 because its officers and troops have stayed steadfast in the fulfillment of their constitutional duties. Senator Diri was represented by Special Adviser on Security CP Akpoebi Agerebi (rtd).
He continued by saying that the Brigade had made outstanding progress against oil theft, abduction, militancy, sea piracy, robbery, and other criminal activity, which had significantly improved the security situation in Bayelsa State.
The Governor also praised the security agencies’ better coordination and cooperation in maintaining calm within their Area of Responsibility. He also urged them to carry out their duties in a proactive, unwavering, and apolitical manner.
WASA is a yearly gathering for officers, troops, and their families to interact, according to Brig-Gen Sadisu Yakasai, Brigade Commander. He continued by saying that 2022 was successful and exciting since the fight against crude oil theft and militancy was steadily winning.
The Commander gave the good people of Bayelsa one more assurance: During the general elections in 2023, troops will conduct themselves professionally and politically neutrally.
The event’s cultural performances by various cultural troupes, a tug-of-war between young soldiers from the Brigade’s Garrison and Corp members, female soldiers, and soldiers’ wives, awards for outstanding soldiers of the year, gifts for the Special Guest of Honor and Special Guests, and beating of retreat were its highlights.
