Governor of Nasarawa State

Abuja, Nigeria – His Excellency, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, the Governor of Nasarawa State, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa, to extend his congratulations on the CDS’s well-deserved appointment. During the meeting, the Governor expressed his appreciation for the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) in providing adequate security to Nasarawa State.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Acting Director Defence Information, released a statement to journalists detailing the discussions during the visit. Governor Sule emphasized the importance of being proactive in addressing security challenges, particularly with the recent discovery of lithium deposits in Nasarawa State. He expressed his desire to avoid the experiences seen in Zamfara State, where the discovery of mineral resources led to security issues.

In response, Major General Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, thanked Governor Sule for his unwavering support to the AFN and his dedication to developmental initiatives for the state. He assured the Governor of the Armed Forces’ continuous commitment to providing support to Nasarawa State, highlighting the state’s strategic proximity to the Federal Capital.

The CDS also stressed the significance of implementing necessary regulatory controls on mining activities within the state to prevent potential security breaches. Proactivity, he emphasized, is crucial in maintaining enduring peace and security in Nasarawa State.

The visit underscored the importance of cooperation between the state government and the Armed Forces in addressing security challenges and harnessing the potential benefits of the lithium discovery. By working together and taking preemptive measures, both parties seek to ensure the safety and well-being of the people of Nasarawa State and create an environment conducive to sustainable development.

As Nasarawa State enters a new phase with the discovery of valuable mineral resources, the commitment to proactive security measures will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the region’s stability and prosperity. The Governor’s visit to the Chief of Defence Staff exemplifies the determination of Nasarawa State to collaborate with the Armed Forces in promoting peace, security, and progress for its citizens.
