On July 12, 2023, in the Defense Headquarters Abuja, the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa, had separate talks with the governors of Zamfara and Plateau States. These sessions had the dual goals of discussing the security situation in each state and looking for methods to improve security and advance peace.

In addition to congratulating the CDS on his appointment, Zamfara State Governor Dr. Dauda Lawal also emphasized the difficult security situation in the region. He stressed how the security issues have stymied progress and complicated government. In order to increase security, Governor Lawal called for the deployment of more troops and logistics while also recognizing the work of the troops on the ground. Additionally, he emphasized the necessity for additional budget for the military and for cooperation between people and the state’s security forces.

In response, the CDS expressed sympathy to the citizens of Zamfara State and gave them assurances of the Defense Headquarters’ commitment to giving them the required security support. He promised to make sure the troops are well-prepared and that the Armed Forces and other security organizations will work more effectively together.

Similar to this, Plateau State Governor Barrister Caleb Muftwang paid a visit to the CDS to express his congratulations on his appointment. Major General Musa was commended for his professionalism by Governor Muftwang, who also expressed confidence in his capacity to handle Plateau State’s escalating security issues. The governor praised the military’s efforts and paid respect to the fallen heroes. He urged sustained efforts to improve the state’s security condition.

The CDS informed Governor Muftwang that the Armed Forces were devoted to and determined to bring peace to Plateau State in his response. Major General Musa expressed his sympathies for the lives lost in the state and emphasized the necessity of locating the sources of the issues in order to involve all parties in the crisis’ long-term resolution.

Plateau States

The discussions between the CDS and the governors represent a team effort to solve security issues in each state. The Nigerian Armed Forces’ dedication to collaborating closely with state governments and other stakeholders to reestablish peace and security is shown by this. The discussions will aid in formulating strategies and putting plans into action to address security concerns and advance peace in Zamfara and Plateau States.
