The Commander of the Nigerian Army’s Guards Brigade, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Takuti Usman, and a few of his senior staff officers paid a special visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House Abuja on December 19, 2022, as part of celebrations for the 80th birthday of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The purpose of the visit, according to the Commander Guards Brigade, was to specifically congratulate the Commander-In-Chief on turning 80 and to wish him many more years of happiness and health.
The Commander also took the chance to thank President Buhari for giving the Brigade the tools it required to protect the Federal Capital and its surroundings, which he claimed contributed significantly to the security of nearby states including Niger, Kogi, Kaduna, and Nasarawa.
In response, President Muhammadu Buhari praised the Commander of the Guards Brigade and his team for their service, sacrifice, and dedication. He also reminded them of the rules of military duty, which he said requires self-sacrifice and commitment. He also emphasized that the Armed Forces had lived up to expectations in resolving the various security problems and expressed gratitude to God Almighty for keeping him thus far since he was elected President-elect.
Guards Brigade Commander assured everyone in attendance, as well as Nigerians, that he is still dedicated to serving his country and will do so in the future.
In addition, the Commander Guards Brigade and other top Nigerian Army commanders who benefited from the recent Brigadier to Major General Promotion announced by the Army Council under his leadership were congratulated by President Buhari during the ceremony.
The gift-giving to the president and group photo were the visit’s high points. A few members of the federal executive council, including the secretary of the federal government, Mr. Boss Mustapha, the president’s chief of staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, and the permanent secretary of state, Tijani Idris, were present for the ceremony. Commanding officers from the several Guards Battalions affiliated with the Brigade were also present.
