As the Nigerian Army‘s new Guards Brigade Commander, Colonel Adebisi Olusola Onasanya just taken command. On July 4, 2023, the Brigade Conference Room served as the location for the Handing and Taking-Over Ceremony.
Brigadier General Aminu Umar, the leaving commander, thanked the officers and soldiers of the Brigade for their assistance, devotion, and dedication over the course of his leadership. He pleaded for continuing assistance so that his successor could complete the crucial work of securing the Federal Capital Territory and its surroundings, which is the Brigade’s principal duty. This duty includes protecting the President and the first family.
As the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Brigadier General Umar thanked him for his assistance when he was in charge of the Guards Brigade. He also expressed thanks to Chief of Army Staff Major General Taoreed Lagbaja for giving him the chance to serve his country.
The departing Commander thanked the Brigade’s officers and men for their contributions to the smooth running of his service. He asked them to give the incoming Commander, whom he described as a highly motivated and decorated senior officer with a sound moral foundation, the same degree of support and commitment.
Colonel Adebisi Onasanya responded by thanking the departing Commander for the cordial welcome and quick transfer of command. He praised his predecessor’s accomplishments in terms of building up the military’s infrastructure and enhancing their welfare. Colonel Onasanya gave the departing Commander assurances that he would uphold the positive traditions and further improve the welfare of the men under his leadership.
The new Commander underlined the importance of everyone working together to advance the Brigade and urged everyone to support his plans for reaching new heights via discipline, commitment, and dedication. Aside from thanking the Army Chief of Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, for finding him deserving of the position, he also vowed his devotion to the Army Chief’s goals and the safety of people and property in the Brigade’s area of responsibility.
