The 5-day Operations Planning Cadre 2023 has been launched for officers under the control of Headquarters 1 Division of the Nigerian Army. At Kawo, Kaduna State’s Division Auditorium, the event got underway on Monday, June 19, 2023. Annually, the Cadre is held with the goal of fostering interagency cooperation in a combined operations environment and enhancing the operational arts skills of officers who are directly involved in operations planning.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division and Force Commander Operation WHIRL PUNCH, Major General OT Akinjobi, welcomed the participants and highlighted that the Cadre is intended for officers with the rank of Captain to Colonel. He emphasized the Cadre’s goal, which is to strengthen officers’ capacity for both single- and joint-service operations and to reacquaint officers with the operation planning process. This is consistent with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision for the Nigerian Army, which places an emphasis on a professional force capable of completing missions in a team environment to defend Nigeria.
The GOC recognised that combat was becoming more difficult due to advancing technology and changing threats. He stressed how vital training and capacity building are in helping armies meet new security concerns. He asked the participants to go into the Cadre with an open mind so they may profit as much as possible from the program.
Brigadier General SK Usman mni (Rtd) gave a speech on interagency cooperation, collaboration, and coordination on the first day of the Cadre, which was one of the day’s significant events. As a way to commemorate the occasion, certificates, trinkets, and a group photo were given to the attendees after interactive sessions.
Officers have a platform to improve their knowledge and abilities through the Operations Planning Cadre, ensuring that they are prepared to contribute to operational planning and joint operations in an efficient manner. It demonstrates the dedication of Headquarters 1 Division to ongoing instruction and professional growth, which will subsequently increase the Nigerian Army’s ability to handle security issues and defend the country.
