Major General Abdulsalami Bagudu Ibrahim, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and the commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, officially opened the Drivers Basic Course 1/2023 at the Headquarters 3 Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos.
The drivers course was started to increase personnel capability in troop and equipment transportation, which will be necessary during operations.
The GOC and Commander OPSH Major General AB Ibrahim, who was represented by the Chief Of Staff Headquarters 3 Division, welcomed the students and remarked that training is the best form of welfare a Commander can provide for his troops. He emphasized the importance of ongoing training and retraining for soldiers to ensure the best performance of their jobs. In order to avoid making costly mistakes, he asked the students to be open to learning and make an effort to ask questions. He also mentioned the tragic errors that drivers make that result in the deaths of soldiers.
Brigadier General NM Sabo, the commander of the 73 Supply and Transport Brigade, previously stated that the drivers’ training was organized to inform and update the trainees’ knowledge of fundamental driving, driving ethics, and practical driving in all weather conditions and terrains.
Gen. Sabo noted that the requirement for the training to teach soldiers became required after observing the high rate of accidents brought on by drivers’ negligence and recklessness. He pointed out that the pupils came from various formations and groups.
He expressed confidence that the participants will have the necessary expertise for the field by the end of the training.
Commanders, principal staff officers, division officers, and leaders of paramilitary organizations from the Plateau all attended the ceremony.
