The Executive Governor of Adamawa State, His Excellency, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, commended the resilience and doggedness of troops of 23 Brigade Yola on their gallant efforts in securing the State. The commendation was made to the troops during the annual West African Social Activities (WASA) 2022 organized by the Brigade on 29 January 2023.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who was ably represented by the Deputy Governor Adamawa State, Chief Crowther Seth, noted that the troops of the Brigade have every reason to celebrate as its officers and men have remained resolute in the discharge of their constitutional roles towards ensuring relative peace in the State and its environs. He commended the efforts of the troops in fostering synergy and collaboration with other security agencies, leading to a peaceful atmosphere.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Commander 23 Brigade, Brigadier General Mohammed Jibrin Gambo, reiterated that WASA provides a forum for social interaction and an opportunity to interact with the public to appreciate the immense and diverse customs and glamorous traditions of numerous ethnic groups in the barracks.
He noted that the training activities of the Brigade in 2022 was effectively executed with a high sense of professionalism and regimentation. He averred that the continuous conduct of operations in the State has drastically decreased the security threats and sustained the confidence of the populace in the security agents. He thanked the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, for the continuous support and commitment in enhancing professionalism and regimentation in 23 Brigade through his visionary command. He also acknowledged the exemplary leadership and strategic guidance of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya, noting the enabling environment he has provided for the Brigade to thrive especially with the focus on training, preparedness and professionalism. Furthermore, he emphasized that the general election is fast approaching and implored troops to be apolitical and remain resolute in delivering the mandate to ensure a secured electioneering process in the State. He concluded by appreciating His Excellency the executive governor of Adamawa State, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for his genuine understanding and unwavering support.
Highlights of the event were cultural dance displayed by various cultural troops, Tug of war, raffle draw, sack and cycling races as well as presentation of awards to outstanding officers and soldiers of the Year and beating of retreat among others.
The event was also attended by representative of the Commander Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, representative of the Commandant Nigerian Army Armoured School, representative of the Commissioner of Police Adamawa State Command and other heads of security agencies as well as the representative of Lamido of Adamawa, Coordinator Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association, members of NAOWA, and the President American University of Nigeria amongst others.
