On January 15, 2023, Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police, laid wreaths alongside President Muhammadu Buhari of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, General Lucky Irabor, CFR, the Chief of Defence Staff, and other Service Chiefs to commemorate 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

According to Police boss, this is in honor of the sacrifices made by gallant soldiers of the Armed Forces to ensure the unity, peace, and advancement of the nation, the event was observed nationwide at the National Arcade in Abuja and reproduced at other sites in each state of the federation.
The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, members of the Federal Executive Council, the Diplomatic Corps, and members of the Force Management Team were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony.
The Inspector-General of Police expresses sympathy to the families and loved ones of the officers and personnel of the armed forces, the Police Force, and other paramilitary organizations who have paid the ultimate price while serving the country. In a similar vein, he exhorts every Nigerian to band together so that their sacrifices would not go in waste as we launch campaigns to continuously advance peace, unity, peaceful coexistence, and all-around public safety in the country.
