Abuja – Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the acting inspector general of police (IGP), has formally started distributing insurance payouts to the surviving family members of police personnel who have died or sustained permanent impairments while performing their duties. The project intends to give these departed heroes’ families financial help and assistance.

Sixty-eight (68) households received checks totaling N535,618,788.44 (five hundred and thirty-five million, six hundred and eighteen thousand, seven hundred and eighty-eight thousand, seven hundred and eighty-eight) during the event. These people are the Group Life insurance 2022–2023 Policy Year Beneficiaries.

Speaking to the crowd, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, said that the IGP stressed the value of human life as well as the safety of police officers and staff. He reaffirmed that the police leadership is dedicated to upholding its duty to offer all officers who have sacrificed for the country complete welfare support and insurance benefits. This effort strives to establish a supportive environment where each officer feels appreciated, safe, and inspired to perform to the best of their ability in service to the nation.

The IGP also got a donation from Anchor Insurance Company Limited in the amount of Seventy Million Naira (N70,000,000.00), in addition to the insurance benefits. The Kano State Command Headquarters will be rebuilt with the help of this financial assistance because it was extensively destroyed by a fire occurrence in January 2023. The IGP expressed his appreciation for the kind gift and said it would go a long way toward rebuilding the command’s infrastructure and increasing its operational skills, enabling more effective and efficient policing services for Kano State’s citizens.

The IGP also used the occasion to express his gratitude for the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force for their everlasting commitment and dedication. He commended them for their tenacity and loyalty in preserving the principles of justice and security, which are essential to the country’s welfare. The IGP acknowledged that these officers’ deaths and injuries have left an unfillable vacuum but he promised that their legacies would always be remembered and loved.

The Nigeria Police Force’s leadership is committed to prioritizing the welfare and well-being of its employees, as seen by the implementation of the Police Insurance Scheme and the giving of aid to the families of deceased and injured officers. The assistance offered is intended to lessen the financial hardships endured by the affected families and to pay tribute to the heroic officers who gave their lives in the line of duty.
