The long-awaited committee report on the repositioning of the Police Mobile Force was received by the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, marking a significant step toward improving operational effectiveness and strengthening internal security. The report, which focuses on the creation of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), was delivered to the IGP on July 10, 2023, by DIG Adeleke Adeyinka Bode, mni, the chairman of the committee and deputy inspector general of police in charge of operations.

The committee’s report represents a significant accomplishment in the IGP’s ongoing efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the Police Force overall and improve manpower management. This was stated in a statement issued from the Force Headquarters in Abuja by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the public relations officer for the force.

A recent speech by the IGP at his inaugural meeting with the commanders of the Police Mobile Force and other tactical squads revealed his intentions to create a strong Special Intervention Squad with 40,000 highly skilled personnel. The IGP also announced the closure of all unapproved beats as part of the repositioning strategy and the removal of Police Mobile Force personnel from VIP escorts. With these steps, internal security will be strengthened and the Police Force’s central position in the internal security architecture will be further established.

The IGP praised the committee for their diligent work in putting together the report. In order to ensure smooth execution, he reaffirmed that the Force Management Team would carefully examine and put the committee’s recommendations into practice. The Police Force hopes to accomplish a significant improvement in its overall functioning by doing this, enabling it to successfully address security issues and maintain the safety of Nigerians.

In the IGP’s efforts to improve the capabilities of the Police Force, the creation of the Special Intervention Squad represents a significant advancement. As the implementation modalities are set up, it is anticipated that the repositioning efforts will increase operational effectiveness, internal security, and public confidence in the Nigerian Police Force.
