Members of the Kaduna State Chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) paid Maj-Gen IM Yusuf, Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, a courtesy visit at the NDA Headquarters in Afaka. FIDA is a non-governmental organization whose mission and vision are to promote, protect, and preserve the rights, interests, and wellbeing of women and children through the use of legal frameworks that guarantee their freedom to choose and have their own future, free from any type of discrimination, violence, or violation of their human rights in society.

Aisha Abdu Mohammed, Chairperson of International Federation of Women Lawyers Kaduna State Chapter, stated the objective of their visit to NDA as being to familiarize the organization with NDA as well as to request support from NDA to enable them to carry out their tasks successfully. Mrs. Mohammed claims that FIDA provides free legal representation for low-income women and children, as well as mediation, counseling, and policy-related activities. She continued by saying that these are additional to publishing informational resources. In light of this, the International Federation of Women Lawyers Chairperson asked for NDA’s cooperation in its coordinated efforts to put an end to all types of violence against women and children.

In response, Maj Gen IM Yusuf, Commandant NDA, praised the female attorneys for their efforts to defend innocent residents, particularly women and children. He gave the FIDA members reassurance that, despite the apparent restrictions being felt everywhere, NDA will make every effort to provide its fair share to the support of FIDA’s charitable endeavors.

The Commandant used the occasion to inform the female lawyers of the outstanding achievements made by female cadets in the Academy and female officers in the Armed Forces as a whole. She also urged the women to carry on with the good deeds they have been doing, despite what may appear to be obstacles in their way. He also prayed for God Almighty to keep guarding them and to give them the fortitude and bravery to carry out their mission.
