According to Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, military personnel from Nigeria killed 152 bandits and destroyed more than 100 of their camps in Kaduna State during the second and third quarters of 2022.
He said this on Friday, when he was delivering the security status reports for the second and third quarters of 2022 to Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State.
“Since military activities in the State were stepped up, you’ll discover that there has been noticeable improvement. Over the course of the six months under evaluation.
“152 bandits and terrorists were neutralized by ground forces throughout the state, and scores more during aircraft raids on known camps and convergent sites.” In fratricidal skirmishes in Birnin Gwari and Chikun LGAs, 16 bandits and terrorists were killed, while over 100 terrorist and bandit camps were destroyed.
Two (2) General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), 74 AK47 rifles, 1 AK49 rifle, and 9 Type 06 rifles were among the weapons and ammunition seized from criminals, terrorists, and gunrunners over the course of six months.
Four additional light assault rifles, four pump action rifles, one G3 rifle, sixteen locally produced rifles, seven Dane guns, three handguns, fifty-four (54) AK47 magazines, one G3 magazine, eleven (11) pump action cartridges, and 5,398 rounds of live ammo were among the seized ammunition.
“In the combined period, 654 suspects, including 613 men and 41 women, were detained as suspected drug traffickers, and their stashes were seized.
2,759.891 kg of marijuana, 6558.007 kg of psychoactive chemicals, and 0.064 kg of heroin were among the illicit substances collected. “The situation generally along roads and other highways has significantly improved.”
“Across Kaduna State, the number of deaths attributable to terrorism, banditry, and violent attacks has decreased in the third quarter. The same for cattle theft and kidnapping of people.
“Collaborative efforts are producing fruitful outcomes. We really appreciate all that the Commanders, Officers, and Men of the security services for improving situation. There is still much to be done, therefore we move forward, he remarked.
