On Sunday, November 13, 2022, in the wee hours at Kankomi, Chikun LGA, the Nigerian Army (NA) Troops thwarted an attack by a number of bandits. One of the attackers was ultimately neutralized, while others managed to flee with bullet wounds.

Mr. Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State, stated this in a statement to press.
Mr. Aruwan continued by saying that the Kaduna State Government had been told of the development in the feedback, which had shown the courage the military had shown in driving the bandits back.

There were many infiltration attempts made by the attackers against the forces’ position. In retaliation, the watchful troops opened fire on them, engaging them in a ferocious gunfight that lasted for approximately an hour. One of the terrorists, who was dressed in battle gear made of military camouflage as seen in the accompanying photo, was killed during the gunfight. Bloodstains along their retreat path show that others had been shot and managed to escape.
In addition to five locally produced grenades, the soldiers also captured an AK-47 weapon, seven AK-47 magazines, and seven rounds of ammunition from the bandits.
Sadly, the troop’s locals discovered three corpses while utilizing the bandits’ escape path. These locals had been murdered by the escaping bandits.
Additionally, soldiers from Operation Forest Sanity conducted clearance patrols along the Gwagwada-Chikun-Sarkin Pawa axis, extending from the Chikun LGA to adjoining interstate boundary territories.
On high ground before Kafaiyo, contact was reportedly made with terrorists. The destruction of one terrorist resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle.
In addition, when the terrorists saw the soldiers approaching, they ran away, leaving behind their motorcycles, which were later found. Around Kafaiyo, Dafako, Kopi, and Gadani, the military fully destroyed multiple terrorist camps.
Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State, was saddened by the feedback. He expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the souls of all the deceased. The Governor thanked the brave soldiers for their persevering efforts and commitment.
In the meanwhile, locals are urged not to shelter or offer assistance to unidentified people who appear suspicious and are seeking medical care for gunshot wounds. Telephone numbers (09034000060) and (08170189999) should be used to report such incidents to the security operations room.
The local population will be kept informed of any new developments while aggressive fighting patrols are underway.
