Kano State Peace Committee

On March 13, 2023, at 3 Brigade Headquarters in Kano State, Nigerian Army (NA) Brigadier General Jamiu Olayinka met the executive members of the Kano Peace Committee.

The team, headed by its Chairman, Abubakar Mahmud SAN, and his entourage, visited the Brigade to thank it for its efforts in ensuring the state’s presidential and national assembly elections were conducted in a peaceful manner. He claimed that the level of professionalism shown in responding to distress calls and reducing the security danger within the state during the election was outstanding.

He also pleaded for more help and the committee’s intention to involve more state stakeholders in its efforts to uphold the terms of the peace accord memorandum, which the political parties had agreed to sign in order to prevent political thuggery, electoral violence, and criminal activity during and after the upcoming gubernatorial election.

The commander of 3 Brigade NA, Brigadier General Are, responded by stating that one of the NA’s constitutionally mandated duties is to support civil authorities militarily. He added that upholding the code of conduct governing the electioneering process while working with sister services and other security agencies to ensure a free, open, and peaceful election is a national responsibility.

He continued by assuring the committee of the Brigade’s support in timely responding to any security danger so that law-abiding citizens could continue to take advantage of the comparatively calm and favorable environment.
