Major General Gold Chibuisi has taken over command as the 13th Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) from Major General Ibrahim Ali on July 13, 2023. The handover ceremony was held at the Command Headquarters in Maimalari Military Cantonment, Maiduguri, and was marked with vibrant celebrations.
In his valedictory speech, the outgoing Theatre Commander expressed his gratitude to the officers, soldiers, and stakeholders of OPHK for their significant contributions to the successes achieved during his tenure. He called on them to extend the same level of support and cooperation to the new Theatre Commander.
Major General Ibrahim Ali acknowledged the substantial reduction in the threat within the Theatre and urged the troops to sustain the ongoing offensive against the remnants of terrorist elements in the region. He emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism and avoiding any actions that could tarnish the reputation of the Nigerian Army.
Before the handing and taking over ceremony, a send forth ceremony was held to honor the outgoing Theatre Commander and other senior officers who were being posted out of the Theatre. The Executive Governor of Borno State, His Excellency Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, represented by the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Danjuma Ali, expressed deep appreciation for the outgoing Theatre Commander’s efforts in restoring peace to the North East region.
The new Theatre Commander, Major General GU Chibuisi, acknowledged the solid foundation and achievements of his predecessor. He pledged his commitment to consolidate on the successes and operational gains of the Theatre in order to fulfill the operational mandate of the command.
The ceremony included addresses to the troops, the signing of handing and taking over notes, and Quarter Guard Ceremonies.
