The Nigerian military has made great strides in the war against armed banditry and terrorism in the states of Sokoto and Zamfara. Jabbi Ruwa, the notorious bandit leader, and four of his colleagues were captured by soldiers from Forward Operating Bases (FOB) Gwadabawa and Rakka in Sokoto State. In parallel, troops from Operation Hadarin Daji successfully cleared bandit enclaves and thoroughfares in a number of Zamfara State communities.

The military reacted quickly to reports that Jabbi Ruwa and his companions were seeking safety in Dambala hamlet in Sokoto State after receiving reliable intelligence. Local guides helped the troops from FOB Gwadabawa and Raka carry out a precise operation that resulted in the capture of Jabbi Ruwa and four of his foot soldiers. The operation shows the value of taking intelligence-driven measures to battle illegal elements.

On a different front, soldiers from Operation Hadarin Daji started a persistent clearance operation in Zamfara State on July 28, 2023. The objective of this operation was to destroy bandit strongholds and obstruct their mobility through the area. The Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State’s Sangeko, Kabugu Lamba, Kaboro, and Mairairai villages were included in the operation.

Armed criminals were confronted by the military when clearing out the famed bandit leader Alhaji ILU’s hideouts in the villages of Sangeko, Kabagon Lamba, Danmani, and Kaboro. The army confronted the armed bandits with superior weaponry, forcing them to flee. One robber was defeated during the operation, while others managed to escape after being shot.

Preliminary investigations are being conducted on the detained suspects, including Jabbi Ruwa, to learn important details about their criminal networks and operations.

Major General Godwin Mutkut, who also serves as the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and is the Commander of Joint Task Force Northwest, praised the soldiers for their valiant efforts and accomplishments. He praised their bravery and commitment and exhorted them to keep up the momentum in the struggle against insurgency and banditry.

The Nigerian military’s dedication to preserving the safety and security of local residents and communities is demonstrated by these recent victories in the states of Sokoto and Zamfara. The ongoing attempts to dismantle criminal elements’ operations and neutralize them send a loud and obvious message that terrorism and lawlessness will not be allowed.

The Nigerian military is steadfast in its resolve to safeguard the peace and stability of the impacted regions as well as the nation’s territorial integrity. They seek to put an end to the threat of armed banditry and terrorism through intelligence-led operations and persistent efforts, creating a safer and more secure environment for all Nigerians.
