The Multinational Joint Task Force wrapped up its forces’ in-theater training for countering improvised explosive devices on Friday, May 26, 2023. Basic tracking techniques, intelligence gathering, and IED product identification in counter-insurgency operations were the main topics of the training, which was organized by the EU and COGINTA at Headquarters MNJTF in N’Djamena.

Immediate survivability, IED placement, and disposal tactics were among the other topics covered in the course. At the conclusion ceremony, Force Commander Maj. Gen. GU Chibuisi, who was represented by Deputy Force Commander Brig. Gen. Assoualai Blama, said the European Union’s efforts to combat terrorist activities in the Lake Chad Basin region were praiseworthy.

He continued by saying that the MNJTF understood the need of IED training to put an end to the conflict with the insurgents and pointed out that terrorists turned to IEDs since attacking troops was becoming more and more challenging. He instructed them to always remain alert in order to spot and neutralize the devices when they come into contact with them while carrying out their tasks.

The Task Force’s thanks for the training, which, according to Gen Assoualai, would improve the Force’s capabilities in the battle against terrorists in the Lake Chad Basin region, was expressed to the European Union by Gen Assoualai.

The training was deemed vital, according to the European Union delegate, because terrorists are increasingly using IEDs. He added that the training’s goal was to help the troops develop the skills and strategies they would need to deal with improvised explosive devices in the field.

He urged soldiers to combat the threat posed by IEDs by applying the skills they had learned during training. Representatives of the European Union, COGINTA, and dignitaries from the MNJTF all attended the event.

As the MNJTF continues its mission to combat insurgency and ensure peace and stability in the region, the training on counter-IED techniques equips its troops with crucial skills, enabling them to respond decisively to the evolving security landscape.
