In a successful operation, troops from the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) thwarted an attack by at least two ISWAP terrorists in Amchide, located on the Cameroon side of Banki, during the night of June 12, 2023.

According to reports, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate a position held by the MNJTF troops. However, the well-prepared and vigilant soldiers swiftly engaged the assailants in a fierce gun battle that lasted approximately one hour. The troops demonstrated their courage and determination in repelling the attack, effectively neutralizing the terrorists and preventing any further harm.

During the encounter, two ISWAP terrorists were killed, marking a significant blow to the extremist group’s operations in the region. However, it was not without cost, as one soldier sustained injuries while defending against the attackers. The injured soldier is receiving the necessary medical attention to ensure a speedy recovery.

Zagazola Makama, a prominent Counter Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst specializing in the Lake Chad Region, confirmed the details of the operation. His expertise and analysis serve to highlight the continuous efforts made by security forces in the area to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of the local population.

The successful repulsion of this attack underscores the dedication and effectiveness of the MNJTF troops in their mission to eradicate terrorism and restore peace and stability in the region. The MNJTF, comprising troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon, and Benin, continues to collaborate closely in their efforts to counter the activities of extremist groups operating in the Lake Chad Basin.

The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by the MNJTF and the need for sustained efforts to eliminate the threat posed by terrorist organizations. The troops’ resilience and commitment to their duty are commendable, as they risk their lives to protect the communities they serve.

The MNJTF and its member countries remain resolute in their determination to secure the region and create an environment conducive to the well-being and prosperity of the affected populations. Through coordinated efforts and the support of experts like Zagazola Makama, the MNJTF will continue to deal decisive blows to terrorist elements, contributing to the eventual restoration of peace and stability in the Lake Chad Basin.
