Complement Military Operations

Abuja, Nigeria – In a bid to enhance the effectiveness of military operations and ensure the unity and security of Nigeria, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Major General Taoreed Lagbaja has called upon troops of the Nigerian Army (NA) to combine their military efforts with prayers. The COAS made this appeal during the Interdenominational Church Service held today at the Mogadishu Military Cantonment, Abuja, as part of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2023.

Addressing the gathering, Gen Lagbaja emphasized the significance of spiritual efforts in complementing the NA’s operational engagements and safeguarding the nation’s corporate existence amidst the prevailing security challenges. The Army Chief highlighted the historical significance of the event to Complement Military Operations, marking 160 years since the formation of the Nigerian Army in 1867, underscoring its continued importance as a symbol of national unity and a force to be reckoned with in Africa and globally.

The Interdenominational Church Service serves as a platform for troops to offer prayers and supplications to God on behalf of the Nigerian Army, the Armed Forces, and the nation as a whole. Gen Lagbaja acknowledged the arduous journey the NA has undertaken in its commitment to preserving national cohesion, including participation in a civil war, engagement in peacekeeping missions, and the ongoing battle against terrorism, insurgency, and criminal activities across the country.

Expressing gratitude for the sacrifices made by the troops, the COAS highlighted the loss of lives, injuries sustained, and the increasing number of widows, widowers, and orphans left behind as a consequence of their dedication. He urged all NA personnel to reflect upon the current security challenges and incorporate them into their prayers, trusting in the divine intervention that will lead to the success of the Nigerian Army and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Additionally, Gen Lagbaja urged the troops to reciprocate the government’s support by remaining loyal, disciplined, patriotic, and unwavering in their commitment to combatting security threats in various operational theaters. He assured the soldiers of his personal dedication to their welfare and well-being, promising increased support under his command.

As the Nigerian Army commemorates its 160th anniversary, COAS Major General Taoreed Lagbaja’s call for spiritual efforts to complement military operations reflects the importance of holistic approaches to addressing security challenges. With the commitment to troops’ welfare, the COAS aims to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s capabilities and ensure the safety and unity of the nation.
