The Nigerian Army Intelligence School (NAIS) recorded a historic milestone on 16 August 2025, as the Chief of Military Intelligence (CMI) (Army), Major General Bobby Ugiagbe, laid the foundation stone of the School’s permanent site at Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, Abuja.
In a statement, Lieutenant Chivir Joel, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Headquarters Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps, said the ceremony underscored the Nigerian Army’s renewed drive to modernise its intelligence architecture and reposition NAIS as a true centre of excellence.
Speaking at the event, the Commandant of NAIS, Brigadier General Kingsley Nwoko, represented by Colonel Sarkinzango Khalil, described the project as a transformational step that would enhance training, research, and operational efficiency. He commended the support of past and serving Chiefs of Army Staff, and lauded the vision of the outgoing CMI (A), Maj Gen Ugiagbe, while assuring the incoming CMI (A), Maj Gen Aliyu Idris, of the School’s commitment to sustaining the vision.
In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour and outgoing CMI (A), Maj Gen Bobby Ugiagbe, noted that the project represents more than just physical structures but “the beginning of a bold new chapter for the intelligence community, rooted in innovation, professionalism, and Action Through Knowledge.” He expressed appreciation to the late COAS, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, whose approval brought the project to life, and paid tribute to his predecessors. He further acknowledged the steadfast support of the present COAS, Lt Gen OO Oluyede NAM, while reaffirming NAIC’s loyalty and commitment to national security.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Deputy Commandant of NAIS, Col Taofeek Yakubu, represented by Maj Koyejo Hamzat, recognised the contributions of past CMIs and Commandants of NAIS that laid the foundation for the current achievement. He expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, prayed for the successful completion of the project, and wished attendees a safe journey back to their destinations.
The foundation stone laying ceremony, which came at the twilight of Maj Gen Ugiagbe’s tenure as CMI (A), was followed by a befitting sendforth reception organised in his honour at the Vue Restaurant, Wuse, Abuja. Commanders, Directors, and Staff Officers of HQ NAIC celebrated his outstanding leadership, mentorship, and invaluable service to the Corps. He was presented with tokens of appreciation as colleagues and subordinates bid him farewell with warm wishes for the future.
