The Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy, Maj Gen IM Yusuf, yesterday played host to Cadets of Direct Short Service Course (DSSC) 26 NA and Direct Regular Course (DRC) 30 NAF at the Academy House, Afaka.
The Luncheon which is part of the series of events lined up for the Cadets’ Combined Passing Out Parade is part of the tradition in the Academy, held in honour of Passing Out Cadets. The Commandant’s Luncheon provides a relaxed atmosphere for the Passing Out Cadets to interact with Officers and Civilian Staff of the Academy and to receive advice and guidance from them. Over 337 Cadets of DSSC 26 NA and DRC 30 NAF took part in the Commandant’s Luncheon alongside Dy Commandant, Principal Staff Officers, Deans, Snr Offrs and Offrs, civilian staff of the Academy, SNCOs and members of NDAOWA.
The Commandant, Maj Gen IM Yusuf, who also doubled as the Special Guest of Honor (SGOH) at the event, in his remarks, charged the cadets to maintain discipline, be steadfast and imbibe the qualities of integrity, as well as to always maintain loyalty to service. He emphasized the importance of hardwork and dedication as the only way to get to the top, but it takes only loyalty to remain at the helm of affairs. Hence, he charged the Cadets to prioritise loyalty and hold tenaciously to it as a core principle of an officer’s virtue.
The Commandant also stressed on the need for the cadets to build on their character, bearing in mind that character defines a person. He therefore advised them not to do anything that would tarnish their image or that of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, instead they should carry out their duties respectfully and with integrity.
Furthermore, the Commandant urged them to be truthful in all situations and treat others with kindness. Moreso, he encouraged them to be prudent with their resources and always remember their families when they become officers.
The Commandant’s Luncheon for DSSC 26 NA and DRC 30 NAF witnessed a live band display by NDA Band, alongside comic relief by different comedians.
