In an effort to ensure ongoing cooperation and synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Police and to achieve complete security for the Federal Capital Territory and its surroundings, the new police commissioner for the Federal Capital Territory, CP Sadiq Abubakar, paid a working visit to the Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Aminu Umar, in his Abuja office.

In his remarks, CP Sadiq Abubakar expressed his gratitude to the Commander and his officers for their warm welcome and said that joining the Brigade felt like returning home because he had been trained by the late Brig. Gen. Maxwell Kobe, a former commander of the Guards Brigade, and had also spent the majority of his service years in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) working closely with Brigade officers and members.

He stated that the objective of his visit was to formally request the Commander’s assistance in developing a strategy and synergy that would enable the police and other security forces operating in the Federal Capital Territory to effectively combat any criminal elements that might be tempted to disturb the peace of the populace, particularly as the general elections in 2023 approach.

The FCT Police chief reaffirmed that the friendly relationship between the Brigade and the Police over the years had benefited Nigerian Police in the past and added that the Police Command under his supervision in the Federal Capital Territory looks forward to a more robust friendly relationship to help him succeed in his task of securing the Federal Capital and its environs.

Brigadier-General Aminu Umar, the commander of the Guards Brigade, responded by congratulating the Commissioner on his appointment and thanking him for deciding to use the Brigade as a critical point of partnership.

He emphasized that the Nigerian Army and other security organizations may be duped into engaging in war by some unscrupulous individuals, and that the police have continued to play crucial roles as the leading agency in addressing these concerns. He guaranteed the New Police Commissioner of the Brigade’s full cooperation in terms of both tactical actions and strategic alliances.

The Commander reiterated the Guards Brigade’s steadfast commitment to playing the required part in making sure that security-related concerns within the FCT and its environs are given top priority whenever they arise in order to ensure everyone’s safety, including local residents.
