Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida of the Nigerian Air Force, who had just been named Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), took office and committed to further the objectives of the Nigerian Air Force. He took over as the 18th DOPRI on January 6, 2023 from Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet.
The outgoing Spokesperson who was the 17th DOPRI, Edward Gabkwet, begged the people and the media to lend the new Spokesman as much support as they could. According to Gabkwet, the new spokesperson is a qualified senior public relations specialist who will represent Nigerian Air Force operations to the outside world in the best possible way.
In a statement to the media, the new spokesperson, Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, thanked the CAS, Air Marshall O. Amao, for the appointment and gave him his word that he would continue to project the CAS vision, which is to enhance and maintain crucial airport capabilities required for joint force employment in support of national security imperatives, in his capacity as the spokesperson for the Air Force.
He keeps the public informed about advancements in military and security through the media while maintaining his commitment to his watchdog responsibilities. He counseled them to use their reporting and the media to change how the general public views and feels about the Nigerian Air Force.
So, in order to expand the Nigerian Air Force’s ability to use air power against the enemies of our beloved nation, I think that this will enhance the combat efficiency and effectiveness of the Nigerian Air Force.
He cautioned all Defense correspondents and other media experts to remember that “these challenges we all must work together to address it as partners in attempts to anchored on trust and respect.”
On behalf of the officers, personnel, and civilian staff of the Directorate, Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida declares that the Directorate will continue to advance under his direction and make full use of all traditional and online social media platforms in order to clearly communicate air force stories. While doing so, he expresses gratitude for Air Commodore Gabkwet’s significant contributions to the management of the directorate.
