Brigadier General Tukur Ismail Gusau, the recently appointed Acting Director of Defence Information, assumed control of the Directorate of Defence Information.

On January 17, 2023, General Gusau succeeded the outgoing director, Major General Jimmy Akpor, in a ceremony held at the Defense Headquarters in Abuja. Recently, the former spokeswoman for Defence Headquarters was named Director of Personnel Services (Army) at Army Headquarters.

The new spokesman for the Defence Headquarters praised his predecessor quickly after taking office, praising his excellent efforts to improve relations with the media and positively portray the activities of the Nigerian Armed Forces (AFN).

Brigadier General Gusau mni expressed his gratitude to the media for supporting the armed forces consistently throughout the years and noted that it has played a crucial role in all facets of the development of the country.

He urged the military and the media to work together more closely on national security issues. He asserts that the ability to write effectively can be quite useful in addressing some of the security issues that troops are currently trying to address. Also from him:

In his closing remarks, the Director of Defence Information pleaded with the media to extend to him the same level of collaboration, support, and understanding that they had shown to his predecessor.

The departing Director of Defence Information stated earlier in his statements of farewell that the military and media had come to a level of a greater understanding of what the roles of the military and the media were.

He claimed that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General LEO Irabor, had made great efforts to establish a long-lasting relationship with the media out of an understanding that both the media and the military were essential to fostering a tranquil, orderly environment in which all citizens could aspirate and realize their dreams.

He praised the CDS for holding two media meetings with editors and CEOs of media organizations, during which insightful exchanges improved everyone’s knowledge of their roles in advancing national security.

He continued by saying that the Nigerian military had indeed performed enormous feats and that other aspects of national power, along with military operations, had essentially brought back social and economic life to the North East.

Akpor consequently pleaded with the media to give his predecessor the same support he had received from them so that he could carry out his duties.

Brigadier General Tukur Ismail Gusau, the interim director of defense information (Ag DDI), is a seasoned and accomplished public relations expert who has served in a variety of Nigerian military formations and organizations.
