Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to fostering innovation and critical thinking among its people across the country. The COAS made this statement at the opening of the leadership training program 7/2023 for officers of the 8th Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto.

Lagbaja stressed the course’s goal, emphasizing that it was to provide employees with the abilities needed to adapt and successfully face the nation’s changing security issues. Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8 Division, spoke on behalf of the COAS and advised the officers to take advantage of the chance to develop their leadership skills.

According to the COAS, the training is consistent with the Nigerian Army’s ideology to become a well-trained, outfitted, and highly motivated force, capable of carrying out its constitutional obligations in a collaborative setting. The Nigerian Army’s subalterns and young troops were found to have leadership deficiencies, thus the leadership development course was created expressly to address these issues.

As these qualities are essential to the success, progress, and development of the Army and the nation as a whole, Lagbaja emphasized the significance of quick thinking and efficient command and control skills for officers. He exhorted the officers to take advantage of the chance to sharpen their leadership abilities and perform their tasks more skillfully. Throughout the session, the COAS highlighted the importance of discipline, commitment, and passion.

The Nigerian Army Resource Centre’s Director General, retired Maj.-Gen. Garba Wahab, indicated that the course’s goal was to give participants the knowledge and abilities to recognize and control the troops under their command critically.

The Nigerian Army’s reaffirmation of its commitment to encouraging innovation and critical thinking among its members shows its dedication to providing officers with the knowledge and frame of mind required to deal with challenging and evolving security situations.
