The Nigeria Customs Service, in partnership with Sean Cussons Consulting Group (SCCG), conducted a comprehensive 5-day pre-retirement workshop for officers set to exit the service. The workshop, held from November 13th to 17th, 2023, at the Customs conference hall in Garki, Abuja, aimed to prepare officers for a successful transition into their post-service lives.
Representing the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resource Development, Greg Itoto, emphasized the workshop’s objectives in enhancing the retiring officers’ readiness for life beyond the Customs Service. The program, he stated, was designed to empower participants with new ideas, strategies, and skills to explore various opportunities post-retirement.
The workshop primarily targeted Deputy Comptrollers, providing them with insights into business opportunities, investments, technological advancements, and tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle after leaving the service. Itoto underscored the workshop’s significance, stating that it aligns with the Customs Service’s commitment to supporting the social and economic well-being of its retired officers.
CGC Bashir expressed the Customs Service’s ongoing appreciation for the contributions of retired officers, recognizing them as essential stakeholders. He affirmed the service’s dedication to organizing programs like the Strategic Exit Program Workshop to ensure retiring officers are well-prepared for the next phase of their lives.
Deputy Comptroller Ajibola Kayode, one of the participants, commended the efforts of the Customs leadership for organizing the workshop. He expressed satisfaction with how the program met their expectations, emphasizing the need to sustain such initiatives for the benefit of retiring officers.
The workshop, operating under the theme “Strategic Exit Program for Retiring Staff of Nigeria Customs Service,” reflects the commitment of the Customs Service to the continuous development and well-being of its officers throughout their professional journeys and into retirement.
