In observance of the country’s period of mourning after the death of Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has postponed its planned Gala and Award Night, which was originally set for Friday, November 15, 2024, in Abuja.

In a formal statement, Chief Superintendent of Customs and National Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Maiwada expressed the deepest sympathies of Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi to the late General Lagbaja’s family, his coworkers, and the Nigerian Armed Forces as a whole. Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was a leader who made great sacrifices and was extremely dedicated. “He has made incalculable contributions to interagency cooperation and Nigeria’s security,” CGC Adeniyi stated. “We honor his memory and service in solidarity with the Nigerian Army, his family, and all Nigerians.”

The NCS acknowledges the gravity of this loss and joins the country in honoring a leader who united efforts in national defense and whose influence spanned all security services. The NCS’s support for the Nigerian Army and the larger security community in commemorating General Lagbaja’s legacy is reflected in the Gala and Award Night’s rescheduling.

The NCS thanks all of the guests, partners, and stakeholders for their understanding and support and will offer updates on the Gala and Award Night’s new date soon.
