In a significant operation, the Nigerian Air Force, as part of Operation Hadin Kai, has reportedly killed a considerable number of Boko Haram militants in airstrikes conducted in the Sambisa Forest area of Bama Local Government Area.

The airstrikes, carried out during the night of June 21, 2023, specifically targeted the camps of the terrorists in the AMCHILLE and GEIZUWA areas. Acting on credible intelligence about an imminent attack being planned by the terrorists, the jets launched precise strikes, resulting in the elimination of a large number of militants. While a few managed to escape, the majority of the terrorists were killed in the operation.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, revealed that the airstrikes had a significant impact, leading to the surrender of over 50 Boko Haram members and their family members from several villages. These individuals, hailing from Mairambiri, Zaramari, Bula Tuja, Bula Marwa, Bula Daloye, Kajiri, and Gare villages, surrendered to the troops of the 202 and 151 Battalions of the Nigerian Army. The operation effectively forced their surrender due to the relentless pressure exerted on the militants.

Additionally, on the same day, Mohammed Yahaya, a 30-year-old terrorist from Gobara village in the general Sambisa area, along with his two wives, surrendered to the troops of the 192 Battalion in Pulka, located in Gwoza local government.

These developments indicate the continued success of the Nigerian military in its ongoing efforts to counter the activities of Boko Haram. The airstrikes and subsequent surrender of militants demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and the determination of the security forces to restore peace and stability in the region.
