Operations Support Facilities

On the A-29 Super Tucano (A-29ST) aircraft, the Nigerian Air Force has formally opened operations support facilities and winged six more pilots.

This was announced in a statement released on Friday in Abuja by Air Commodore Ayodele Famuyiwa, the NAF’s director of public relations and information. Famuyiwa said that the NAF has reached a significant milestone in its procurement of American-made aircraft with the most recent facility induction.

According to him, the ceremony marked the official conclusion of the A-29ST programs by the US government as part of the A-29ST aircraft’s government-to-government sale to Nigeria.

The projects, according to Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, Chief of the Air Staff, who was represented by Air Vice Marshal Idi Lubo, Chief of Policy and Plans, are the final infrastructure development packages to be completed in order to actualize the full operation and security of the A-29ST aircraft.

He expressed the hope that the infrastructure will support the NAF’s readiness and responsiveness to national security concerns by ensuring the best possible use of the aircraft.

The occasion gave six pilots, who make up the final batch of 24 pilots trained as part of the package as the A-29ST program comes to an end, the chance to fly.

“Recall that discussions on the NAF acquiring A-29ST aircraft began in 2016, but that Sierra Nevada Corporation received the contract for the aircraft’s production in 2018.

“The deal included the procurement of 12 aircraft as well as facility and infrastructure upgrades to support the operating of the aircraft.

The full aircraft’s delivery signified the end of the first phase of the contract, while the handover of the infrastructure and its inauguration signaled the end of the second.

He thanked everyone who contributed to the project’s success, including the governments of Nigeria and the United States.
