Nigerian Armed Forces Needs the Support and Prayers of the Citizenry – GOC 2 Division

As part of the activities in commemoration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration 2023, an Interdenominational Church Service was held at the Christ The King Catholic Church, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan. In his remarks at the church service, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division Nigerian Army Major General Aminu Chinade called on the citizenry to continue to support and render prayers to the Armed Forces to enable her surmount the security challenges facing the country.

The GOC ably represented by the Commander 2 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Nsikak Edet pointed out that it’s not easy for anyone to lay down his or her life for another, therefore, there is need to pray and encourage the troops while carrying out their constitutional duties. Brigadier General Edet enjoined all to see members of the Armed Forces as part of the society by showing them love, care and the needed support to excel in their chosen profession. He prayed to God to grant the souls of the departed heroes eternal rest, watch over the families they left behind and also provide for their needs.

During the sermon, the Deputy Director Chaplain Services Roman Catholic, 2 Division and Vicar Christ. The King Catholic church, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan Colonel Callistus Nwachukwu said the fallen heroes have demonstrated the uncommon love for the country and its citizens just as Christ laid down his life for whom he loved. Colonel Nwachukwu called on Christians to always learn how to do things in a selfless manner, think of the country first and show love to the families left behind by the departed colleagues by donating generously towards their welfare and wellbeing.

Also, during the service, prayers were offered for the country, Armed Forces, the Clergy and the people, defence against enemy, retired/discharged/serving personnel, the departed/disable colleagues and their families.

In attendance were Commander 52 Signals Brigade Brigadier General Victor Cletus, Commander 2 Division Ordnance Services Brigadier General Babatunde Ilori, Deputy Chief of Staff Operations Brig Gen Julius Ogbobe, Commander 2 Provost Group Colonel Rauf Apata and other senior officers, Officers and Soldiers and Members of NAOWA 2 Division chapter.
