Nigerian Army Commences Verification of Deceased Personnel Children for Scholarship

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, has ordered the start of the verification and screening of eligible children of Nigerian Army (NA) personnel who died in active service, in accordance with the philosophy of effective administration for the sustained welfare of personnel and their families.

According to a statement made by the director of army public relations, brigadier general onyema nwachukwu, the chief of administration (army), maj. gen. wilson ali, said the program’s goal is to provide the deceased’s children with the necessary education so that they can become empowered adults and contribute to society responsibly.

Gen. Ali continued by urging both current and potential beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity to profit from the exercise, noting that it will provide comfort for the kids of NA personnel who gave their lives protecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The verification and screening exercise, which started on January 17 and is still going on at Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess 1, Asokoro Abuja, is aimed at offspring of dead military officers who attended primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.

Both current and new candidates who fall into the age ranges of 6 to 12 years for primary school, 12 to 18 years for secondary school, and 18 to 22 years for tertiary institutions will be taken into account during the screening verification procedure.

The applicants must also submit a handwritten application for sponsorship that includes the names of the children, a Letter of Admission, a Last School Report Card or Results, a Letter of Confirmation from the Beneficiary’s School, a Birth Certificate, a Death Certificate for the Personnel Who Has Passed Away, a Condolence Letter for the Departed Parent, and a Notification of Casualty.
