Following unsettling claims and graphic media content claiming that soldiers from the 1 Division were involved in a sad occurrence in Sabon Birni in Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State, the Nigerian Army has come under fire. The sources state that during a recent military operation in the area, three people were purportedly murdered and about 100 animals were purportedly destroyed.

Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, released a statement expressing deep condolences for the impacted community and the families of the departed in reaction to these grave accusations. He underlined the Army’s dedication to upholding its constitutional obligation to protect people and property and made it clear that any actions that go against this directive will not be tolerated.

Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the allegations, Major General Nwachukwu said. The investigation’s goals are to identify the incident’s immediate and underlying causes as well as to hold those found to be at fault accountable. The Army has informed the public that the investigation’s findings will be made public after it is concluded and pledged to conduct an open review process.

While the inquiry is being conducted, the Nigerian Army has asked the public to remain calm and understanding. This answer demonstrates the Army’s commitment to upholding operational integrity and making sure that its deeds are consistent with its mission to defend and assist the people of Nigeria.
