A joint military operation in Niger State’s Munya local government reportedly cleared the bandits area, killing about 20 militants and rescued five kidnapped victims during clearance operations in Niger State.

The operation was conducted in Gaskiya Bana, a border town in Niger State’s Munya Local Government between Kaduna and Niger States. According to information obtained, the bandits have abducted the victims for more than a month.

The bandits were also claimed to be lieutenants of Munya Local Government Area’s Gaskiya Bana-based terrorist leader Alhaji Leyi.

Emmanuel Umar, the state commissioner for internal security and humanitarian affairs, confirmed the operation while revealing that the bandits left their victims while the security agencies ransacked the area.

He continued by saying that the troops encountered a terrorist ambush near Unguwan Aboki but were able to repel it despite dozens of people being slain and others being forced to flee.

Yakubu Abuba, Susan Sunday, Patience Sunday, Lazarus John, and Bulus Yahaya are among those who have been saved from the bandits, according to Mr. Umar. The victims were all taken from Chukun village in Kaduna State around a month ago, he added.

Following a medical check, “all the victims have been debriefed” and “since rejoined with their families,” he said.

He applauded the security agencies and other stakeholders’ efforts in reducing the recent wave of terrorist activity in the State.
