The Nigerian Army Women Command (NAWC) on Monday commenced its First Quarter 2026 Workshop at the Headquarters, 6 Division Nigerian Army, with renewed focus on strengthening the operational employment of female personnel in Nigeria’s contemporary security landscape.

In a statement, the Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Major Nsima Essien, said the five-day workshop, scheduled from 16 to 20 February 2026, is themed: “Employment of Nigerian Army Women Personnel in Contemporary Security Situation: Nigerian Army Women Command in Perspective.”

Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Major General EE Emekah, reaffirmed the Army leadership’s commitment to gender inclusion, professionalism and sustained capacity building.

He emphasized that female personnel play critical roles in intelligence gathering, community engagement, civil–military cooperation and other operational tasks essential to mission success, particularly within complex internal security environments.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander, Nigerian Army Women Command (NAWC), Brigadier General MS Adamu, stated that the workshop was deliberately designed to strengthen the professional capacity, confidence and operational readiness of female personnel across formations.

Brigadier General Adamu noted that the dynamic security environment demands continuous training, adaptability and a clear understanding of the strategic role of women within the operational framework of the Nigerian Army. He urged participants to maximize the sessions to enhance their competence and contributions to ongoing internal security operations.

A major highlight of the workshop was the delivery of three lectures titled “Gender-Informed Intelligence Community Access for Early Warning,” “Operational Readiness of Female Personnel for Contemporary Internal Security Tasks,” and “Civil–Military Cooperation and Protection of Civilians,” presented by retired senior officers Brigadier General TJ Kareem, Colonel OI Mosugu and Brigadier General BET Bello respectively.

The event also featured a keynote address by Major General A Oyebade (Rtd), who underscored leadership, discipline and professionalism as pillars for strengthening the Women Command. He encouraged participants to uphold integrity, loyalty and selfless service while striving for excellence in their assignments.

The First Quarter 2026 Workshop is expected to further consolidate the Nigerian Army’s commitment to building a responsive, inclusive and mission-ready force capable of addressing the nation’s evolving security challenges.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph.
