Nigerian Company 4 of the ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau (NIGCOY 4, ESSMGB) joined millions of Nigerians across the globe to celebrate the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary on 1 October 2025 at its Headquarters in Bissau City.

In a statement, Major Yahaya Nasir Kabara, Mission Public Information Officer, noted that the event was graced by the Special Guest of Honour, Ambassador Ngozi Ukaeje, Resident Representative of ESSMGB, who conveyed warm greetings and felicitations from the President of the ECOWAS Commission, His Excellency Dr. Omar Alieu Touray. She applauded NIGCOY 4 for their professionalism, cultural displays, and outstanding drills, commending the Commanding Officer and troops for maintaining security and discipline within the camp.

Ambassador Ukaeje also expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Guinea-Bissau for their continued support to the mission, while praising the Nigerian community in the country for strengthening bilateral ties.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Charge D’Affaires ad interim of the Nigerian Embassy, Mr Johnson Ogbola Agida, congratulated NIGCOY 4 for being worthy representatives of Nigeria, urging them to continue upholding integrity, courage, and excellence in the discharge of their duties. He prayed for God’s blessings upon Nigeria and wished Nigerians worldwide a joyous Independence Anniversary.

The celebration featured colourful cultural performances, silent drills, unarmed combat demonstrations, and traditional dance displays by troops of NIGCOY 4. The event attracted dignitaries from the diplomatic corps, international organizations, the Guinean Armed Forces, government officials, and members of the Nigerian community in Guinea-Bissau, all of whom joined in celebrating Nigeria’s landmark occasion.
