The Mogadishu Battalion won the Cadet Brigade Inter-Battalion Combat Swimming Competition for Army Cadets of 70 RC, which just took place on February 6, 2023, at the NDA Swimming Pool in Afaka. Mogadishu Battalion was crowned the winner of the competition and received the trophy after accruing a total of 460 points throughout the competition. The Dalet Battalion came in third with 340 points, the Abyssinia Battalion came in second with 400 points, and the Burma Battalion came in fourth with 200 points.
Three different categories—60-meter combat swimming with a rifle, 60-meter combat swimming without a rifle, and 120-meter combat swimming—were used for the Combat Swimming competition. The competition’s goals were to build teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship among the cadets while also putting their endurance to the test (without rifle). Other competitions include Floatation, Endurance Combat Swimming, 60-Meter Combat Swimming (Female Category), and Tower Jump.
The Commandant NDA, Maj.-Gen. IM Yusuf, expressed his appreciation for the cadets’ outstanding performance during his remarks. He underlined that being able to swim is a skill that every cadet must have and that those who can swim stand the best chance of graduating from NDA.
Maj.-Gen Yusuf also took the opportunity to encourage the cadets to always maintain a positive mindset because doing so has many benefits, especially when they are out in the field. Additionally, he exhorted them to always embrace an attitude of tenacity and determination. He went on to add that if they coupled these two things, they would be successful. The importance of mentoring and grooming within the Academy was also underlined by the Commandant. He challenged senior cadets to continually ensure that they are helping and directing their junior cadets.
The presentation of medals to those cadets who excelled during the competition was one of the event’s highlights. Some of these cadets are Cadet SA Udor of the Mogadishu Battalion, Cadet ES Solomon of the Abyssinia Battalion, and Cadet BD Emus of the Mogadishu Battalion. The winning battalion at the competition also received the prize.
