In a series of coordinated operations across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, the Armed Forces have struck a significant blow against terrorism and kidnapping activities. The military’s efforts have led to the neutralization of 59 terrorists, the arrest of 10 kidnappers, and the rescue of 88 hostages.
According to Maj-Gen Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, the operations were carried out by different task forces targeting terrorist enclaves and criminal hideouts in various regions of the country. These measures aimed to confront the nation’s security challenges head-on and bring the perpetrators to justice.
During the engagements, the military successfully recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition. The haul included 26 AK47 rifles, 1 GPMG, 1 AKMS rifle, 1 FN rifle, 4 pump-action rifles, 5 pistols, and 19 dane guns. Additionally, 1,083 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 228 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 14 rounds of 5.56 x 45mm ammunition, 15 fully loaded AK47 magazines, 9 rounds of 9mm ammo, as well as a substantial sum of money and stolen crude oil were seized from the terrorists and criminals.
Among the notable achievements of the military operations was the rescue of 88 hostages held captive by the terrorists. The successful rescue operations demonstrate the dedication and courage of the troops in safeguarding civilians from harm.
Furthermore, the operations resulted in significant surrender by terrorist fighters, indicating that some individuals are denouncing the extremist ideology and choosing to lay down their arms. This development is seen as a potential step towards further weakening the terrorist groups in the country.
In response to the rising terrorist and kidnapping activities, the military also targeted key figures in the criminal networks. Notably, a gunrunner and several suspected collaborators were arrested, and a considerable amount of illegal arms and ammunition was confiscated.
The military has also been actively conducting air interdiction missions against terrorist hideouts and illegal refining sites, further disrupting the activities of the criminal elements.
In conclusion, the recent achievements of the Nigerian Armed Forces in combating terrorism and kidnapping are commendable and reflect their unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security in the country. The operations have dealt significant blows to the capabilities of the terrorist and criminal groups, providing hope for a safer and more secure Nigeria in the future.
