In Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, Nigerian Army troops of Operation Hadin Kai, 7 Division Garrison, have detained 15 infamous members of a Malian gang in a big operation against criminal gangs. The arrest comes after a vigorous crackdown on gang-related activity in the MMC Local Government Areas’ Gwange, Umarari, and Jajeri regions.

These criminal groups have attacked civilians and stolen their cellphones and other possessions, causing deaths and injuries to innocent people around the state. The citizens of Maiduguri were extremely alarmed by the increase in urban gangsterism and demanded immediate and effective action.

The army started a sting operation aimed at the targeted localities in response to these worries. The operation, which was carried out on June 9, 2023, resulted in the successful capture of 15 suspects at around 11:40 p.m.

Five mobile phones, an axe, a jackknife, and a pump-action rifle were among the goods retrieved from the suspects. These pieces of information will be crucial for further research and prosecution.

The Department of State Security Service (DSS) has been given control of the suspects and the seized goods in order to complete the required legal processes. The DSS will carry out its investigation and take the necessary legal action.

The detention of these 15 infamous gang members is a huge victory in the ongoing battle against crime and for the safety and security of Maiduguri’s citizens. It exhibits the Nigerian Army’s dedication, capacity, and cooperation with other security agencies in addressing regional security concerns.

The operation sends a loud and clear message to criminal elements that their behavior will not be allowed, acting as a powerful deterrence. In order to create a safe and secure environment for the people of Borno state, the Nigerian Army will continue to rigorously collaborate with the DSS and other law enforcement organizations to track down and arrest individuals participating in criminal activity.
