The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has stepped up efforts to combat oil theft across the country. In a recent operation, the Commandant General’s Special Anti-vandal Monitoring Squad seized 15 boats in the Akwa Ibom State towns of Eket and Ibenno that were hauling 4,500 drums of illegally processed petroleum products.
To combat the illicit actions of oil thieves who have been severely harming the nation’s economy, the operation was conducted with increased vigor and resolve. During this operation, the Special Anti-vandal Monitoring Squad of the NSCDC, which is especially tasked with preventing oil theft, showed its effectiveness and dedication.
Large quantities of illegally refined petroleum products, which are goods made from unlawfully refining crude oil, were discovered to be transported by the impounded vessels. These actions not only cause the government to lose money, but they also put the people they influence in danger of the environment and security.
The NSCDC sent a clear message to individuals involved in oil theft and unlawful refining by impounding the vessels and seizing the illicit petroleum products. It acts as a deterrence and makes it quite apparent that such actions will not be accepted. The CG of NSCDC has highlighted the need to combat oil theft head-on, and this operation demonstrates the agency’s dedication to that goal.
The effective operation in Eket and Ibenno, Akwa Ibom State, emphasizes the value of cooperation between security services, local communities, and pertinent stakeholders in the battle against oil theft. To boost information collecting and improve operational capabilities, the NSCDC has been collaborating closely with other security organizations, including the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Police Force.
Under the CG’s direction, the NSCDC continues to place a high priority on safeguarding vital national resources, such as infrastructure and oil installations. The agency is steadfast in its resolve to put an end to oil theft and other illegal acts that jeopardize the country’s economic security.

The effective operation in Akwa Ibom State serves as a warning to oil thieves and criminals engaged in illegal refining that their actions will not go unpunished. The Special Antivandal Monitoring Squad of the NSCDC will keep being watchful and proactive in protecting the nation’s resources and preventing oil theft throughout Nigeria.
