World Civil Defence Day

As one of the 60-member nations of the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), joined the rest of the world to commemorate the year 2023 World Civil Defence Day with the theme: “The role of Information Technologies in Risks Assessment”.

The event, which also marked the passing out parade of 530 personnel from the 2019 intakes after an intensive eight-weeks of training in arms bearing, tactics, and regimentation, also saw the official presentation and launch of the NSCDC Anthem by the Band Corps for use by Zonal Comman, according to CC Olusola Odumosu, the Director of Public Relations for the NSCDC.

In his speech, the CG said that the Corps’ tenacious battle against criminal elements like vandals, economic saboteurs, and oil thieves is producing previously unheard-of outcomes.

He claims that the tactic has led to the arrest of 546 suspects, 429 of whom are being prosecuted, 51 of whom have been found guilty, 134 trucks, 36 boats, the destruction of 71 illegal oil refineries, and 22 illegal oil bunkering sites, along with the seizure of other equipment used to commit such illicit acts.

The Corps has upgraded its ICT center at the National Headquarters with state-of-the-art facilities that are being maximized to meet the challenges of contemporary crime fighting and management, according to Audi, who claimed that this was done because modern information and communication technology was valued.
He states that “the Corps has designed, developed, and implemented the Integrated Electronic Arrest and Reporting system (i-Ears) for classified communication of intelligence, documentation of report from Divisional Commands to the Commandant General via State Commandants.
