According to (Dr). Ahmed Abubakar Audi, Comdt-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the NSCDC Command and Staff College would launch in 2023. According to the Director of Public Relations (NSDDC), DCC Olusola Odumosu, the Commandant made this known while visiting the proposed college site in Lamingo community, Jos-North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

(Dr). Audi stressed the significance of training and workforce development for the growth, achievement, and development of any serious organization and NSCDC will keep making important strides in this direction until the greatest level of professionalism is attained.

He expressed his sincere gratitude to His Excellency Simon Bako Lalong, (CON), the Executive-Governor of Plateau State, for donating the facilities to the Corps and promised to use them judiciously.

The (CG) also thanked the wonderful people of the State and the Izere Chiefdom for letting the Corps stay in their region. The CG states that, the Staff course will engage Assistant Superintendent of Corps (ASCII) through Chief Superintendent of Corps, while the Command course will review the training of officers from the Chief Superintendent of Corps (CSC) to Deputy Commandant of Corps.

He continued by stating that there would be tactical and operational training. The staff course is mostly operational and involves tactical and operational level team commanders as well as heads of units, unit commanders, and unit commanders.

The Command course will be taken by the Chief Superintendent of the Corps (CSC), Assistant Commandant of the Corps (ACC), and Deputy Commandant of the Corps (DCC).

According to him, “These are people who are getting ready to take on Command tasks, so by the time they become Commandants, they must have been well-equipped and the knowledge collected at the Command course level would be communicated to the administration of Commands.”

The Corps Helmsman also revealed that Katsina College would conduct various capacity-building drills and exercises in addition to the regimental courses for inspectorate cadre and other levels.

Since they are operational personnel in charge of carrying out the orders of the Corps, they must receive sufficient training from the start. This will guarantee that they have assimilated and used their new knowledge by the time they reach the level of command.

As a result, efforts are being made to professionalize the Corps through the recently developed Standard Curriculum for NSCDC’s training Institutions, which has been given to the Minister of Interior for ratification. According to Audi, the Corps has never had these institutional arrangements before.

Due to the support the Corps is receiving from the Plateau State Government, he pledged that the Command and Staff College should begin operations by the first quarter of 2023.
