Prior to the general elections in 2023, Dr. Ahmed Audi, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps‘ (NSCDC’s) Commandant General (CG), has urged officers and members of the Corps to join the battle against corruption.
NSCDC Commandant said this at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission’s (ICPC) induction ceremony for the new heads of the NSCDC Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) at the Corps National Headquarters in Abuja, according to DCC Olusola Odumosu, the director of public relations for the NSCDC.
According to the NSCDC Commandant, increasing the number of members of ACTU in all Corps formations around the country will encourage personnel to act honorably during the upcoming elections.
The NSCDC boss claims that from 2018 to the present, the ACTU has recovered approximately N120 million Naira from various cases involving corruption. He tasked the newly appointed ACTU chiefs with serving as anti-corruption ambassadors and urged them to show renewed strength in their dedication.
Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, the chairman of the ICPC, said that the induction of NSCDC staff members demonstrated the management’s efforts to expand transparency to all facets of the Corps. Prof. Owasanoye admonished the new recruits to pay attention to the Corps’ anti-corruption efforts, and he was represented by Mr. Olayinka Aiyegbayo. In accordance with the Unit’s mandate, he urged the new heads to assist and supplement the work of the ACTU.
In the recently completed 2021 Ethics and Integrity Score Card Assessment of M.D.As by the ICPC, the NSCDC came in second place among the Ministry of Interior’s agencies. A Suggestion box was then introduced by the CG following the induction of no fewer than 50 new employees.
Officers and troops who had displayed excellent performance in the performance of their responsibilities were also given award plaques. Representatives of the leaders of sister organizations attended the ceremony and spoke on their behalf when delivering messages of goodwill.
