A successful operation by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in FCT Command has resulted in the arrest of fifteen (15) suspected vandals, scavengers, and miscreants in an effort to address the growing incidents of vandalism and criminal activities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The suspects were captured during a normal night operation that was intensified with the goal of reducing criminality connected to the FCT’s vital infrastructure.

In an announcement, the National PRO of the NSCDC, CSC Babawale Afolabi, said that the suspects were apprehended in multiple FCT locations carrying out illegal activities like stealing, snatching bags and phones, attacking defenseless civilians under the pretense of scavenging, and damaging public property.

Burglary irons, a Lexus ES 330 used to transport stolen goods, transmission cables that had been destroyed, equipment for vandalism, and further personal possessions were among the things retrieved from the suspects. When presenting the suspects at the FCT Command Headquarters in Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja, Olusola Odumosu, the commandant of the FCT, revealed these particulars.

Odumosu stressed that the prosecution of the detained individuals would follow the law and their misdeeds, acting as a warning to anyone who might consider committing similar crimes. Unable to produce appropriate documentation or permits to support his claim, one of the suspects claimed to be an engineer working on maintenance for a licensed engineering company.

Concerning the impact on public safety and the efficient operation of vital services, the commandant expressed concern about the deterioration of public utilities and important assets as a result of such illegal activity. He emphasized that the Corps is committed to upholding the prohibition on scavenging operations inside the city center, especially in the areas surrounding important national infrastructure and assets.

“We are resolute in enforcing this ban, safeguarding public infrastructure in the FCT, and this effort would be sustained until we achieve sanity in the territory,” Odumosu remarked.

In order to protect government efforts to provide security and other necessities in the Federal Capital Territory, he issued a warning, saying that the NSCDC would not stand for any illegal activity. Odumosu reassured the public that the Corps is committed to protecting citizens and vital infrastructure, and he urged neighbors to report suspicious activity and maintain a watchful eye. After expressing gratitude to the people for their support and cooperation, the Commandant urged them to keep working together to ensure a safe atmosphere.
