Operation Fansan Yamma

The Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, has responded to recent reports alleging that a military fighter jet bombed civilian structures in the Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State. These claims have raised public concern; however, the Task Force wishes to clarify that all military operations are conducted based on comprehensive intelligence and reconnaissance to ensure accuracy and safeguard civilian lives.

In a statement, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, emphasized that these operations are targeted and precise, particularly when combating groups such as the Lakurawa terrorist organization. The military’s approach is aimed at minimizing collateral damage while maximizing the effectiveness of counter-terrorism efforts.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi urged the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports to prevent unnecessary panic. He stressed the importance of caution regarding media misinformation, particularly from groups that may seek to undermine the success of military operations through disinformation.

The statement further clarified that the military action in the Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa areas targeted known positions associated with the Lakurawa terrorist group, which justified the use of force in those regions.

The Joint Task Force reassured the public of its commitment to precision in its operations and the protection of civilians, while continuing the fight against terrorism and banditry in the region.
