The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Oluyinka Olalekan Soyele, has urged for enhanced local support to bolster the joint fight against terrorism and banditry in Nigeria’s North West region. This appeal was made on November 27, 2024, during a courtesy visit by members of the Nigerian Legion, Zamfara State chapter, led by Aminu Ladan Mada, in Gusau, Zamfara State.

Speaking through a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Major General Soyele highlighted the recent reorganization of former operations, including Operation Hadarin Daji and Operation Whirl Punch, into Operation Fansan Yamma. This restructuring aims to enhance coordination and response to security challenges in the North West and Niger State.

General Soyele reported significant progress, particularly in curbing banditry along the Gusau-Funtua highway. He emphasized the critical role of local support and actionable intelligence in sustaining the momentum against criminal elements, assuring that troops remain on high alert to meet the operation’s objectives.

During the visit, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Aminu Ladan Mada, conveyed condolences on behalf of the Legion for the passing of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. He commended General Soyele’s leadership and reaffirmed the Legion’s commitment to supporting Operation Fansan Yamma, emphasizing the importance of synergy between security forces and local communities.

Mada also expressed gratitude to the Defence Headquarters for the restructuring of operations in the North West, describing it as a pivotal step towards ensuring effective collaboration and resource maximization in the fight against insecurity.

The visit underscored the mutual dedication of military authorities and local stakeholders to fostering a safer and more secure environment across the region.
