Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, operating under Sector 2, have recorded significant operational successes with the elimination of two terrorists in Kebbi State and the rescue of 62 hostages in Zamfara State during coordinated security operations.

The operations were conducted in close collaboration with allied security agencies and local vigilantes, underscoring a unified and determined approach to combating banditry and terrorism across the North West region.

In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the Kebbi State operation was carried out following actionable intelligence on the movement of members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group.

According to the statement, troops successfully ambushed the terrorists near the border between Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State and Binji Local Government Area of Sokoto State, precisely at Kerani Village. The encounter resulted in the neutralisation of two terrorists and the recovery of two motorcycles used by the insurgents.

The terrorists were reportedly dressed in camouflage uniforms, while the motorcycles were padded with thick blankets and fitted with equipment designed for long-range movement, including hand tyre pumps—further indicating their intent to sustain prolonged operations.

In a separate but equally decisive operation in Zamfara State, troops stormed Munhaye Forest, a known hideout of the notorious bandit leader Kachalla Alti, following credible intelligence that hostages were being held in the area.

The swift offensive led to the successful rescue of 62 kidnapped victims, who have since been secured and are receiving necessary care. Efforts are currently ongoing to reunite the rescued hostages with their families, while security forces continue to dominate the general area to prevent further criminal activities.

Lieutenant Colonel Osoba noted that the successful operations highlight the sustained resolve of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and its partners to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks, restore security, and protect lives and property across the region.

He reaffirmed that troops remain committed to maintaining offensive pressure on criminal elements until lasting peace and stability are fully restored in the North West.
