…As Theatre Commander Emphasises Training for Operational Excellence

The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (JTF NE OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has reaffirmed that training remains the cornerstone of military professionalism. He made this known during the graduation ceremony of the Instructors’ Development Course Batch 3/2025, held on 15 August 2025 at the Theatre Training School, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, in partnership with the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT).

In a statement, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, said the course produced 40 graduates, who were trained to strengthen the teaching and instructional capacity of troops within the theatre.

Major General Abubakar emphasised that providing personnel with the requisite training equips them with the skills, knowledge, and mindset to excel in their duties and uphold professional standards.

“Headquarters Operation HADIN KAI places a high premium on continuous in-theatre training. The Instructors’ Development Course is designed to capture lessons learned from past operations and translate them into practical knowledge for operational success,” the Theatre Commander stated.

He further noted that the graduates’ contributions would have a direct impact on the success of JTF NE OPHK and the broader stability of the nation, urging them to apply their newly acquired skills in countering emerging threats and enhancing the operational readiness of troops under their instruction.

General Abubakar expressed appreciation to Sector and Component Commanders for their steadfast support and commended BMATT for its commitment to strengthening OPHK’s counter-terrorism capabilities.

“BMATT’s dedication has been pivotal in equipping our troops with skills essential for mitigating terrorist threats,” he remarked.

In his goodwill message, the UK Defence Adviser to Nigeria, Brigadier General Tom Harper, underscored the importance of patrols, counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) training, and medical drills covered during the six-week programme.

“Our support to Operation HADIN KAI is part of BMATT’s wider training partnership with the Armed Forces of Nigeria. We will continue to deepen this cooperation,” Brig Gen Harper assured.

He also praised Captain Charlie Bradbury and the BMATT training team for their dedication in delivering the intensive course.

Earlier, the Theatre Training Officer, Brigadier General Julius Ogbobe, explained that the Instructors’ Development Course was designed to prepare experienced and potential instructors with the skills to train personnel effectively in line with modern operational demands.

The event climaxed with the presentation of certificates and awards to deserving participants, followed by a group photograph.
