In a display of unwavering courage and commitment to protect the populace, troops of Operation HAKORIN DAMISA IV carried out several successful operations against suspected bandits in Plateau State, resulting in the neutralization of a significant number of criminals, the rescue of kidnapped victims, and the recovery of arms and ammunition.

On July 26, 2023, troops operating in the Rugan/Basiru village of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area came under fire from suspected bandits. Fearlessly, the troops responded with precision, compelling the bandits to retreat. During the operation, the troops made a substantial discovery, recovering 2 x AK 47 Rifles with Registration Numbers 07873 and B-32134, along with 15 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition, 3 x locally fabricated guns, and a pair of military desert camouflage uniforms. Additionally, ten suspects were apprehended and are presently undergoing thorough profiling to ascertain their involvement in criminal activities.

Further showcasing their remarkable expertise, troops successfully thwarted an attempted attack on Mangun and Patlong villages in Mangu LGA. In a swift and decisive response, the troops neutralized several bandits, while others fled the scene with gunshot wounds.

Captain Oya James, the Media Information Officer of Operation Safe Haven, stated that on July 25, 2023, troops promptly responded to firing from suspected bandits along road Janneret/Washina Changal and Gyambwas in Mangu LGA. The suspected bandits fled upon seeing the well-prepared troops, leaving behind 3 x motorcycles and 1 x locally fabricated gun. On the same day, the troops acted on a distress call from Rumfar Gwamna village, rescuing 5 kidnapped victims and recovering a Toyota Camry and Sharon cars.

The relentless pursuit of criminals did not stop there, as troops also conducted successful operations at Unguwan Haruna, Kibam, and Dogon Daji forest. During these operations, four more victims were rescued, and two suspected kidnappers were arrested, ensuring justice for those who have suffered at the hands of criminals.

On July 22, 2023, the vigilance of the troops led to the capture of two miscreants and the recovery of two locally fabricated rifles following a distress call from Makabat village in Bokkos. The successful recovery of these weapons helps to make the region safer for all.

In a bid to protect the livelihood of the local farmers, a Combat Team arrested 37 cows for grazing on farmlands belonging to the residents of Shimlan and Barkin Ladi villages. In another related operation, 15 rustled cows were recovered in Fan District of Barkin-Ladi LGA, thereby ensuring the return of stolen property to their rightful owners.

The dedication of Operation SAFE HAVEN remains steadfast in preserving peace and security in the region. Notably, the troops’ efforts led to the apprehension of a notorious gunrunner, responsible for trafficking arms and ammunition in the North West and North Central regions. This significant arrest, along with the recovery of an AK 47 Rifle and magazine at Soi village, Gidan Akwati Gashish District, will undoubtedly disrupt the illicit flow of weapons and reduce the capacity of criminals to carry out heinous acts.

As the operations continue, Operation SAFE HAVEN urges all law-abiding citizens to continue providing credible and timely information to assist in swift responses to emerging security threats. Together, with the cooperation of the community, the troops remain committed to safeguarding the region and restoring peace to the lives of its people.
