On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, Theatre Commander Joint Task Force (JTF) North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) Major-General IS Ali praised the press’s patriotic reporting and objective stance in the war against terrorism in Nigeria’s North East.
As he invited members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Correspondents Chapel, Borno State Council to an interactive session at the Theatre Headquarters in Maimalari Military Cantonment, Maiduguri, The Theatre Commander Joint Task Force gave this compliment.
The Theatre Commander Joint Task Force praised the press for their patriotic reporting, neutrality, and efforts to put national interest before of personal or organizational benefit. He recognized the press as crucial stakeholders in the continuing counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations. The Theatre Commander praised the media while urging more military-media coordination and cooperation.
The NUJ Chairman, Comrade Dauda Iliya, informed the Theatre Commander during the ceremony that they will continue to support and cooperate with him in the media. Also, the press said that terrorist propaganda was no longer effective because it did not reach the media. They continued, “We will continue to engage with the military and other stakeholders to guarantee that peace and normalcy return to the Northeast without a doubt.”
The Theatre Logistics Component Commander, Brig EJ Ikomi, the Theatre Intelligence Coordinator, Brig Gen OM Azuikpe, the Deputy Theatre Commander, Maj Gen KA Isoni, the Chief of Staff, Brig-Gen A Idris, and Key Staff Officers of Headquarters Theatre Command OPHK were present.
